Can a managed digital program work?

No Time To Do Content?
So, recently you have come to realize that your company's digital momentum is not yet where it needs to be...

Believe it or not, that’s a great first step! Many companies are still clinging to the analog world hoping everything goes back to the way it was! Now that you have recognized your position, what's your next step?

Let’s start with some easy questions:

  1. Do you have the right skill sets in your company as yet?
  2. Do you know what skill sets you need?
  3. Have you and your leadership team identified your immediate business goals?
  4. Have you and your leadership team created a digital roadmap?

If the answer to these questions are not all known or you believe you don’t yet understand all that Digital can do for your business the next step might be to leverage outside expertise.

So what are some of your options?

  1. Hire a digital transformation expert
  2. Contract a Digital consultant or firm
  3. Train your teams on Digital transformation
  4. Outsource a digital content company
  5. Hire specialized digital talent
  6. Create a Digital Roadmap
  7. All of the above via an outsourced managed Digital program
As you might have started to realize, it’s very hard to hire when you don’t yet understand what you need!

In the analog world you knew what you needed so you could hire the right people as you needed, however in this new digital world things are not so clear
Still, you must start somewhere and guessing is not an option.
So, maybe it’s time to consider a managed digital program that starts by creating a digital roadmap based on your priorities . Certainly, hiring new skill sets when you may not have a process for them to follow, is like hiring a pilot when you have neither a plane or a destination! So what does a managed digital program look like?

Managed programs can take a number of forms but the key elements to get started are:
  1. Digital Audit (to see where you are currently)
  2. Digital Plan (to create priorities for first steps)
  3. Implementation of plan usually over 12 months

Once these initial steps are completed a program can begin which can include some or all of the following:
  • Digital training of all key team members in all areas of organization
  • Digital online customer service implementation and training
  • Digital sales & marketing implementation and training
  • Measurement of all key metrics against KPIs
  • Digital content development and training
  • Digital system recommendations once new process’s in place and proven
The difference between a managed program and a consulting project is results. While consultants hand off a document for you to follow a managed program implements the process with you over the course of the program. This allows for results and for adapting the program to fit your organization's unique needs. I might be biased, but I would highly recommend a managed Digital program over another consulting project which will likely cost significantly more.
